LIMA's curriculum is built on a fundamental principle; every lesson is taught with performance in mind. To cultivate this performance-ready mindset, each lesson includes adequate practice exercises. Our experience shows that students gain momentum exponentially, progressing to new lessons with increasing confidence and speed as they master each stage.
Our students will be given numerous opportunities to perform in many cultural events, either organized by LIMA or in external events as well throughout their period of enrollment and at all levels. We truly believe this is a key to keep the interest and motivation alive.
Our violin program offers comprehensive training for students at all levels, from beginners to advanced players. The curriculum covers fundamental techniques including proper posture, bow hold, and finger placement, progressing to advanced skills such as vibrato, shifting positions, and complex bowing patterns. Students will learn to read music notation, understand rhythm and tempo, and develop their musical ear through scale practice and repertoire building. We incorporate both Western classical and Indian classical styles, allowing students to explore diverse musical traditions. Classes include individual attention, regular practice routines, and opportunities for recitals and performances to build confidence and stage presence.
Our vocal training program is designed to develop and refine your natural singing voice through structured lessons in breathing techniques, pitch control, and vocal range expansion. Students learn proper diaphragmatic breathing, vocal warm-ups, and exercises to strengthen their voice while maintaining healthy singing habits. The curriculum encompasses music theory, sight-reading, and ear training, alongside practical application through diverse repertoire including classical ragas, devotional songs, film music, and Western genres. We focus on diction, expression, and stage performance skills, preparing students for both solo and ensemble singing. Regular assessments and personalized feedback ensure continuous improvement and help students discover their unique vocal identity.
The Mridangam program offers authentic instruction in this traditional South Indian percussion instrument, essential to Carnatic music. Students begin with foundational techniques including proper sitting posture, hand positions, and basic strokes (thattai, nam, tha, dheem). The curriculum progresses through increasingly complex rhythmic patterns (sollukattu), tala systems, and improvisation skills. Students learn to accompany vocal and instrumental performances, understanding the role of the mridangam in supporting and enhancing musical compositions. Advanced students explore sophisticated concepts like korvai, mohra, and kuraippu, developing the ability to perform intricate mathematical divisions and creative fills. Classes emphasize both technical precision and artistic expression, preparing students for concert performances and collaborative music-making.
